Alexandre, France: “The sole effect of tax hikes is to impoverish us”

Public regulation against smokers in France is not effective. People and especially young people continue to smoke. These laws are ineffective when it comes to public health and only result in a reduction of public freedoms.
In addition, nobody cares about tax hikes: smokers continue to smoke. Their sole effect is to impoverish people.
The French government is a bit schizophrenic when it comes to tobacco. Even with these restrictive laws, it makes a lot of money from tobacco sales.
I personally am a smoker but I am not really impacted by French regulations because I buy my cigarettes in other countries, where the price is lower and where plain packaging is not implemented.
It seems important to me to make people aware of their choice, give them the possibility to smoke or not, and to choose the type of product they smoke (menthols, etc.).
Don’t forget that not giving people freedom of choice can have bad consequences.
